Apple becomes first US company to be worth $800bn.
Apple has become the first US company to top the $800bn (£618bn) mark in market capitalisation, slightly more than two years after it crossed the $700bn threshold.
The iPhone maker’s shares have gained 33 per cent this year and almost 50 per cent since theUS election in November.
The company represents about 4 per cent of the $21.7 trillion that makes up the entire S&P 500 index.
If Apple continues on its growth path, the company will top the $1 trillion market cap level later this year.
